This creates a situation where founders are learning critical concepts in real time rather than applying them from a position of readiness.

For venture firms, this raises an important question about what it means to provide meaningful support. If capital is deployed without a corresponding investment in capability, then growth can outpace the systems required to sustain it. Over time, this increases risk not only for the founder, but also for the fund and its LPs.

There is an opportunity to rethink the model. Rather than treating financial literacy and governance as secondary, they can be embedded as core components of portfolio development. This includes ensuring that founders understand their financial statements, maintain disciplined reporting practices, and build structures that can support external scrutiny as they scale.

In an environment where capital is becoming more selective and operational efficiency is increasingly valued, these capabilities are not just beneficial. They are differentiating. As Amartya Sen has noted, economic progress is tied to the expansion of individual capabilities. In venture, that principle applies not just to access to funding, but to the ability to use that funding effectively.

The broader takeaway is straightforward. The difference between momentum and durability is not opportunity. It is infrastructure. Capital may open the door, but capability determines whether a company can move through it.

For founders, the question is whether the business is prepared to withstand scrutiny at the level it aspires to reach. For investors and LPs, the question is whether capital is being paired with the structures necessary to support long-term success.

Because in this environment, it is not enough to fund growth.

Across financial systems, sales environments, and operational workflows, I’ve seen the same pattern repeat: when information is inconsistent, incomplete, or misaligned, decision-making degrades. Not immediately—but over time. Opportunities are missed, relationships weaken, and systems that appear sound begin to fail under pressure.

Bad data doesn’t just create inefficiency—it introduces risk. It distorts judgment, slows execution, and erodes trust at the points where precision matters most.

In practice, that means maintaining and refining data systems, conducting external research to support capital and relationship strategy, and ensuring that information across the ecosystem remains accurate, accessible, and actionable.

I’m most often brought in when information is incomplete, inconsistent, or disconnected from decision-making. My role is to create structure in that environment—so outreach is intentional, fundraising preparation is informed, and internal systems reflect the level of precision required to operate at scale.

This includes database cleanup and enrichment, research across external networks, and supporting pre-fundraising efforts by strengthening the quality of inputs that shape conversations with partners, LPs, and stakeholders.

It also extends into execution. I work across business development, program planning, and event support to ensure that strategy translates cleanly into action, and that the underlying information supporting those efforts remains reliable.

In this case, what followed was a different kind of engagement. One of our LPs, Jane Dobbs, stepped in as more than a capital partner. She engaged directly with the operational realities of the business. Her involvement was not framed as advisory in the traditional sense. It was hands-on, grounded in experience, and focused on solving the specific challenges in front of the founder.

She began by working through the financial records, helping to untangle and organize historical data in a way that could be understood and validated. She coordinated with accounting professionals to ensure that the underlying systems were not only cleaned up, but structured correctly going forward. At the same time, she helped evaluate financing options, not just in terms of access, but in terms of risk, cost, and long-term sustainability. This included thinking through the implications of factoring arrangements, assessing lender terms, and aligning projections with what lenders would realistically expect.

What stands out in this process is not just the work itself, but the posture behind it. This was not about stepping in to override decision-making. It was about strengthening the system around the founder so that better decisions could be made with clearer information. That distinction reframes what effective support actually looks like.

In many venture environments, LPs are treated primarily as sources of capital. Their role begins with a commitment and ends with reporting. This experience highlights a different possibility. LPs can be recognized as holders of valuable operational knowledge that can materially impact outcomes when applied at the right moments.

This kind of engagement is not common, but it is instructive. When LPs contribute beyond capital, they expand the capabilities of the fund itself. They introduce additional layers of scrutiny, perspective, and discipline that help founders navigate complexity more effectively. As Francis Fukuyama has argued, trust within institutions is built through consistent, structured engagement.

Seen through that lens, this was not an act of generosity. It was an example of alignment. By contributing her expertise, Jane supported the founder while also strengthening the integrity of the investment. The result is a more resilient company, a more defensible portfolio, and a clearer demonstration of what it means to move beyond passive capital.

Over the last month, I have been in rooms that looked very different on the surface: a financial literacy session with students and community members trying to get a firmer grip on money, a liberation dinner grounded in visibility and protection, and the ongoing work of helping companies turn possibility into structure. What tied those rooms together was not aesthetics. It was architecture.

One of our portfolio companies had just secured a purchase order from Sprouts Farmers Market, the kind of milestone that signals a real transition from building to scaling. For any consumer founder, that moment carries weight. It represents validation, distribution, and the possibility that something built from scratch is about to exist in a much larger world. Under normal circumstances, it is the kind of milestone that invites celebration.

But this one did not feel that way.

Instead, the excitement was quickly replaced by a quieter, more practical tension. Retail operates on its own timeline. Payment cycles often stretch 60 to 90 days, which means that by the time a founder receives revenue, the costs of producing inventory, packaging, and logistics have already been incurred. The question becomes less about opportunity and more about timing. How do you fund the gap between delivery and payment?

In theory, there is a clear answer. Purchase order financing, sometimes referred to as factoring, exists for this exact reason. It allows companies to borrow against confirmed invoices and manage the gap between cash outflows and inflows. On paper, it is a standard tool within consumer packaged goods. In practice, it introduces a different kind of scrutiny.

The moment you engage with a lender, the conversation shifts. It moves away from product, brand, and vision, and toward structure. Lenders want to understand the underlying financial reality of the business. They ask for profit and loss statements, balance sheets, historical tax returns, and clean general ledgers. I’m drawn to systems the same way I’m drawn to books: I want to understand how the world works beneath the surface. I read constantly, everything from dystopian fiction and psychological thrillers to biographies and philosophy. The common thread is always the same question: what forces shape the worlds people live inside? Businesses are no different. Every organization is its own ecosystem of stories, incentives, tools, and decisions. When those elements align, momentum becomes sustainable. When they don’t, friction shows up everywhere.

That’s where I work.

In practice, I help small businesses and mission-driven teams operationalize AI, automation, and creative systems in ways that are usable, ethical, and grounded in reality. I design workflows that reduce cognitive load, automate what should be automated, and keep humans in the loop where judgment still matters. I build brand and narrative systems that create coherence across platforms, teams, and tools so what an organization says, builds, and believes remain aligned.

I’m often brought in when things feel scattered. Tools exist, but they don’t connect. Messaging exists, but it doesn’t land. Growth is happening, but the foundation feels thin. My role is to slow the moment just enough to translate intention into systems that people can actually use and trust.

At B.PM Brands, my role is Head of Brand, Systems & Creative Ops, with oversight across brand architecture, automation, creative systems, compliance, and data infrastructure. In practice, that means ensuring the creative vision, operational systems, and technical tooling reinforce each other rather than competing for attention.

That alignment matters because the B.PM Brands ecosystem was intentionally designed as a system rather than a collection of initiatives. DVRGNT Ventures, The Wealth Salons, B.PM Consulting, and The Foundry Network operate as connected parts of a larger architecture. Education informs execution. Capital supports experimentation. Narrative reinforces trust. Small, well-designed interventions compound across the system over time.

My role within that ecosystem is complementary by design. B. sets the strategic arc. I translate that direction into practical systems, brand architecture, and narrative clarity that real teams can execute. Institution-building rarely begins at scale. It begins with small systems that work, repeat, and earn trust.

I choose to work with leaders who understand that care is not separate from rigor, and that long-term outcomes require discipline as much as vision. What drew me to B. Pagels-Minor was not vision alone, but a leadership practice grounded in alignment, relationship stewardship, and operational follow-through. That approach creates the conditions where meaningful execution becomes possible.

Much of my work lives at the translation layer between ideas and reality. Strategic insight only matters if it becomes language teams can use, processes they can repeat, and systems that reduce friction instead of adding to it. That’s where brand, operations, and technology begin to reinforce each other.

Here, my focus is on creative vision, brand systems, narrative strategy, and the operational clarity that allows those ideas to land. I work at the intersection of storytelling and execution, using AI operations and automation to support teams and make creative intent sustainable in practice.

I’m building for usefulness. The horizon is long by design. Impact compounds through clarity, care, and consistent execution.

When I’m not mapping systems or designing workflows, I’m usually reading. Fantasy, dystopian fiction, sci-fi, psychology. Stories about worlds breaking, rebuilding, and evolving. I’ve learned that the same forces shaping those worlds shape organizations too.

DVRGNT Ventures’ thesis centers on investing in high-potential, tech-enabled startups across “The Great 38™” — the Midwest, South, and Mountain West — a region that represents the majority of the U.S. population and a substantial share of GDP, yet remains meaningfully undercapitalized. DVRGNT Ventures conviction is that capital shapes opportunity. By intentionally allocating resources to overlooked founders and ecosystems, the firm aims to drive economic equity, combat systemic bias, and build sustainable innovation infrastructure.

Through the fellowship, Abhinav internalized this thesis. By learning to see venture capital as a tool for ecosystem development and building long-term relationships before writing checks, Abhi was able to further push DVRGNT Ventures mission past his time in the program. During his time he engaged hands-on to de-risk early decisions and backed companies that lifted communities. The emphasis on developing winners reshaped how he thinks about value creation and long-term impact.

Since completing the DVRGNT Ventures fellowship, Abhinav has focused on applying those investing principles in real-world settings across both investment banking and venture capital. As an Investment Banking Intern at Dinan & Company, he has supported live M&A processes, built financial models, and contributed to diligence and CIM preparation. In parallel, he has been involved with Realmspark, ASU Enterprise Partners’ venture arm, where he works on the InvestU Angel Network to evaluate early-stage opportunities, participate in sourcing discussions, and support the broader Arizona investing ecosystem and directly contributing to strengthening capital formation within the Great 38™ region.

One of his earliest success stories during the fellowship was his involvement in closing out the Precision Epigenomics round at DVRGNT Ventures. Building on that experience, Abhinav later brought the same company to the InvestU Angel Network through the relationships he cultivated, where it was selected as a finalist by their deal committee. This demonstrated his ability to engage deeply with the venture ecosystem and champion high-conviction opportunities across multiple platforms - a reflection of DVRGNT Ventures ecosystem-first approach.

Most recently, Abhinav launched Helios Ventures, a student-led venture capital club at ASU designed to create a structured pipeline for sourcing and evaluating early-stage startups across the university ecosystem. Through Helios, he is building a fellowship program that teaches students how to conduct diligence, write investment memos, and think critically about venture capital as an institutional discipline. The initiative also aims to connect student investors with alumni, angel investors, and early-stage founders to expand access to venture education and deal flow within Arizona and across the broader Great 38.

He credits DVRGNT Ventures as a foundational catalyst in this trajectory, providing both the intellectual toolkit and confidence to pursue opportunities in investment banking and venture, but also a broader mission: building infrastructure in underinvested regions and creating pathways for talent to thrive. By focusing on the Great 38™, DVRGNT Ventures is actively reshaping where innovation can happen, Abhinav’s work reflects that same commitment to creating opportunity, strengthening regional ecosystems, and expanding access to venture capital beyond traditional hubs.

For me, the answer can be simplified to one sentence: I ended up here because I learned that relationships are infrastructure, not decoration.

I’ve spent most of my career inside mission-driven organizations, venture ecosystems, and educational programs where the ideas were strong, the intent was genuine, and the stakes were real—but the systems to sustain them were fragile or missing altogether.

Organizations don’t fail because they lack vision. They fail because vision isn’t operationalized. Scale without structure creates chaos. Impact without infrastructure erodes. Commitments get lost in email threads. Context disappears when people leave.

My work exists to close those gaps by stewarding relationships, business development, and institutional memory—the connective tissue that allows trust to compound rather than reset with every interaction.

In practice, that means managing relationships with limited partners and sponsors so each touchpoint builds on the last. I track commitments across conversations, document sensitivities that shape engagement, and maintain context so leadership can show up informed. I own relationship pipelines, ensure follow-up integrity, and maintain a Commitments and Constraints Registry—a living system that captures what we’ve agreed to, how partners operate, and what boundaries matter.

That lens is why the B.PM Brands ecosystem resonates so deeply with me.

This isn’t a collection of disconnected initiatives—it’s coordinated architecture. DVRGNT Ventures approaches capital with discipline and long-term ecosystem development in mind.
